The oldest ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet is Celebrity Millennium, which entered service in 2000 — more than two decades ago! Despite the age, though, the ship still manages to be relatively modern and offers Celebrity’s characteristic luxury, thanks to recent renovations that occurred in 2019, bringing the ship up to modern standards. As you could probably guess, Celebrity Solstice kicked off Celebrity Cruises’ Solstice class. This ship was not only the largest to be built at a German shipyard when it launched in 2008.

"These engines will allow us to burn traditional fuels as well as methanol," Liberty said. "And then as we can get methanol from its current state to be green methanol, then that ship is able to be net zero." The company hopes to achieve net zero by 2050. The pool deck not only has lots of pool loungers, but also numerous loveseats, wicker chairs and cozy booths.

There was a live interview being recorded during this time, so we weren't able to completely enjoy all the views that Eden has to offer. Even the large letters of Eden were filled with plants, which perfectly accentuates the overall the white and grey hues throughout the ship. In the hallways and elevators, you can find accents of marble incorporated throughout the design aspects. With help from godmother Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast of all time, and Captain Kate McCue, Celebrity Beyond was official named and christened today in a ceremony as beautiful and unique as the ship itself.
How many ships are there in the Celebrity Cruises’ fleet?
Note that all Celebrity ships are renovated and upgraded on a regular schedule every few years, so even the oldest Celebrity cruise vessels have newer carpeting, updated furniture, modern decor in cabins and other updates. In many cases, they also have had entire eateries and bars renovated over the years with concepts that first debuted on newer vessels. That makes them a good choice for someone who wants to try Celebrity but isn't eager to travel with big crowds.
Decorated in hues of bubblegum pink and light fawn, with sweeping booths and marble tabletops (expect tables to be covered by starched-white cloths when sailings commence), everything about this space feels luxurious, and we adore it. Instead of being a carbon copy of siblings Celebrity Edge, launched in 2018, and Celebrity Apex, launched in 2021, Celebrity Beyond is longer (by almost 69 feet), taller (by one deck) and offers a raft of new and reworked features. Complementing Chef Boulud’s world-class menu is the restaurant’s ambiance, which is also the result of Jouin Manku’s creative talents. Intimate seating cocoons are surrounded by luminous portals highlighting the themes of journey and travel, while graphically lit “glass flutes” provide layers of light and texture to create an enchanting experience. Guests will enter through a pergola-covered entrance to enjoy one of the hottest spots at sea.
As a brand new vessel, guests can enjoy Celebrity’s newest dining venues, entertainment concepts, and modern cabin amenities. Despite all 16 ships belonging to the same cruise line, they vary greatly in size, amenities, and itineraries. The fleet’s oldest vessels offer a traditional cruising experience, whereas the newest ships feature record-breaking design and innovative features.

He notes that over time, guest interests and needs change, too, so the design of the ships must always consider both the passengers of today and of tomorrow — as well as the needs of the crew. "Operationally, our crew gives us a lot of feedback. Sometimes you design what you think is a perfect space, but operationally, it can be a little bit challenging," he said. Saint-Nazaire, a small coastal city in France, is one of the few places in the world where cruise ships are born. Cruise ships aren't built by cruise lines themselves, but rather by specialized manufacturers. In Saint-Nazaire is the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard, established more than 160 years ago.

Soak up the history and romance of Europe, unwind on island time in the Caribbean, go wild for the natural wonders of Alaska, or experience the land down under in Australia — all on our stunning Edge Series ships. Another innovation that debuted on Celebrity Edge, these rooms essentially see the entire living space become the veranda. The concept of splitting the main dining room into four (Normandie, Tuscan, Cosmopolitan and Cyprus) also appears on Celebrity Beyond. The new-look Martini Bar -- another hugely popular drinking venue -- is sure to be another big hit, centered beneath a dazzling LED chandelier in the Grand Plaza. The Retreat Lounge, Deck 15 forward, is also larger, though the trade off here is there is now no alfresco space directly connected to the private lounge.

Although Celebrity Ascent is classified as a premium cruise ship, there is no doubt that Norwegian Viva rivals a premium experience. Both of these brand-new cruise ships are sleek, innovative, and modern; yet each ship has its own distinct experience. The newest Celebrity Cruises ship is the line’s third Edge-class ship, Celebrity Beyond. This vessel premiered in April 2022 and offers all of the best of the best that Celebrity Cruises has on tap at the current moment.
Celebrity Silhouette spends the summer season in Europe before returning to North America to offer Caribbean cruises throughout the winter. In comparison to Celebrity’s oldest class of ships, the Millennium Class, Solstice Class ships are 30% larger. In addition, the ship’s extremely small capacity means there is little wait for any part of the experience, from embarkation in the Galapagos to getting on and off the ship in port. Celebrity Xploration has a capacity of only 16 guests, over three thousand fewer than ships like Celebrity Ascent and Celebrity Beyond. She is currently the newest ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet at 140,600 Gross Registered Tons, has a passenger capacity of 3,836, and has a crew of 1,416.
We avoided Surfside Cafe for most of the cruise, although we did have breakfast here in the mornings. I only had the option to dine at Le Petit Chef onboard Celebrity Ascent, which was an immersive dining spectacle featuring a tiny, animated chef. While looking at the menus and prices for Norwegian Viva, I was surprised by the higher prices and à la carte menu style.
Celebrity Cruises’ Edge Series Design Ambassador Nate Berkus stepped into the role of designer himself, to imagine one of the most anticipated venues on Celebrity Beyond – the Sunset Bar. Inside this space that is nearly twice as large as previous iterations, Berkus has created a chic, Moroccan-inspired escape that is reminiscent of a modern-day Casablanca. Newer Celebrity Cruises ships generally are bigger than older Celebrity ships — in some cases by as much as 35% bigger. As a result, they have room for more onboard venues and attractions than the line's older vessels.
